enamels, slumping and planning

this is the first firing of glass enamels out of the kiln. they look great, i really like the different effects. its hard to see the detail in the image but i can see some of these being very useful. i put on another layer of enamels today and these are all back in the kiln.

i got into the studio first thing today, its great getting in at 8 am when it opens, you have the space to yourself. i get straight into cold working my flattened glass.

these squares of glass are the first batch of prototypes or tests for a limited edition product/exhibition pieces.

these are ceramic mold, ready to go in a kiln.

the glass goes in flat in the center of the mold and then you turn on the kiln. it will get to 650 degrees Celsius and the glass will slump into the mold, taking on the curved form. hopefully the result will be a low square bowl that i can then add an image to.

the rest of my day was spend planning and scheming. right now i have 4 kilns on in the studio, and another one booked for the weekend. lots of tests and planning being done this week. tomorrow i have a session in the hot glass studio. it will be a very productive one as i will be trying out 2 new ideas. fingers crossed the ideas aren't duds.
