short holiday

it seems like forever ago now, but at the beginning of February borris otto and i went on a short holiday.

we drove south to goolwa and hired a converted paddle steamer for our accommodation. it was perfect. set back from the road and not near any neighbours.

Otto and kombi parked near the paddle steamer.

it was on air bnb. it is an old boat that is not on stilts in the water. so you get the feeling you are on the water without the movement of the boat.

and you get the boat vibe with upper and lower decks and steep stairways.

view of the lounge area inside

pretty well set up kitchen

with a deck all the way around the boat

we had some visitors

but it was very relaxing

and the birds kept their distance.

otto really liked being on board with us

the view of the neighbourhood.

we also went to the beach near by, it was so nice and quiet (school holidays had just ended)

we had the place to ourselves

and just enjoyed being outside near the water

it was too cold to swim but we still had fun

only wish we had more time and money so our holiday could have lasted a little while longer

but it was nice to get out of the city and see some new horizons for a change.

bird warning

i saw this sign and had to take a photo and share it. the birds in canberra are scary. when people ride their bikes here they attach long spikey bits to their helmets to help scare off the birds! not my kind of place.

this sign says:
to wear a hat (that won't protect you)
walk your bicycle (it will probably still attack you)
carry an open umbrella (so it hits the umbrella)
don't run - leave promptly (i would be running)
or
try a different route next time. (that's me i might not make it to work that day because every route had birds on it)

i don't think i could handle canberra in spring time.
