at the cement works the mold and concrete pad for the concrete drawing 3 are ready for casting. the base has been sealed and then oiled.
we have our foam templates ready to go, making sure they fit in the mold correctly and that we remember to glue them down upside down, as the artwork will be flipped in the end.
when we have thought it all through we begin by using liquid nails to glue down all the areas that will be black concrete.
we press it down into place and then remove all the sections that will be blue concrete.
we keep moving down the length of the mold, lining up the sections as we go.
as you can see the image goes from one mostly one colour and switches in the middle to the other colour.
this is what it looks like when all the pieces are in place, ready to go.
one last step is to insert these tall foam squares to create 4 voids in the concrete drawing. later these voids will allows a sculptural unit to sit within the concrete drawing.
and no we are ready to pour the first concrete colour.
