this week has been a busy and varied one for us. we have been concreting, foam cutting, planning, sanding and painting timber, bronze casting and overseeing the final stages of an artwork install. more on all those jobs soon but for now some images from the install.
this job has been in the works for over a year now. its hard to explain what is happening but here it goes. we designed an artwork that would allow you to look through a new building that had been designed with internal voids. kind of like a giant periscope in a building and 3 sets of mirrors. in the photo above deb is on the blue scissor lift up in front of a small square mirror. she is looking at the image in the 3 large mirrors located above near the orange scissor lift.
these are the three mirrors she was looking at. these mirrors connect the site line from the small mirror these and then to 2 other large mirrors located in the middle of the building 2 floors up.
here are the 2 mirrors in the middle of the building, you can just see the orange scissor lift in the middle of the photo.
the guys on the scissor lift are adjusting the mirror to our request - left, left, left, right, up, up, up, down, bit more, up. it went on like that for a while until we got it just right.
the idea is that as you approach the building you will be able to come across a line of vision that enables you to see the view up to the 2 sets or mirrors and out up to the sky.
i originally wrote about this project HERE. and during the time since the objects have been engineered, fabricated and installed.
it is great seeing this project finally installed, complete and actually working. we can see sky! all this from a tiny model and a few mirrors we played with in our studio. we are getting some proper photography done next week of this project and another related design in this building. i will post those fancy photos soon.
