street art at home

this is the view outside our parking garage. recently someone did some pretty ugly graffiti and then someone else covered it up with some green squares.  i come home and see this as i arrive home everyday and it really was annoying me.

so one rainy day a couple weeks ago i left the studio early armed with spray paint and a paper stencil.

i started with a bright red which will become the colour of the final graphic. it was funny spraying this on the street standing on my kitchen chair with passerbys giving me funny looks.

this image was an extra from my exhibition planning, so i decided to cut out around the milk crate images so i could use it for a stencil.

i used a low tack spray adhesive and attached the paper stencil to the wall over the red area. then i sprayed over the whole wall in black paint.  leaving a few green squares for fun

when i removed the black paper stencil the red milk crates appeared.

i think it is a much better image to look at. my first bit of street art.
