all girl glassblowing team

due to the bad back i have had lately and because i have so much work ahead of me, and each piece is quite involved in many processes like blowing, cutting, slumping cold working etching and then finishing i decided to hire a team of people to help me make my work.

last saturday the ladies team worked for 4 hours making me some lime green and white cylinders.

it all starts with the colour, and in this small kiln warming up is about $300 worth of colour bar.

2 glassblowers each pick up one piece of colour, the green gets a bubble in it and the white gets heated up into a nice hot blob before getting dropped onto the green bubble. this is then spread evenly over the surface of the bubble.

once this colour is set up clear glass is gathered over top of the colour bubble and passed onto the next team of 2 glassblowers.

these glassblowers gather more clear glass and then blow out the bubble and shape it into the desired form, in this case a cylinder.

the bubble then gets transferred to a punti and opened up into a cylinder with white on the outside and green on the inside. in this image the green looks orange because it is so hot.

the team did a great job and we are going to do it all over again this coming weekend.
