about ten weeks ago i broke my scaphoid bone in my right wrist. i was in a cast for 6 weeks, and have now been cast free for 3 weeks. the movement of wrist is still very limited and there is still a fair amount of pain if i try and use it. physio has not really helped. the specialist thinks i may have done 2 injuries at once, rare but not unheard of. i may have broken the scaphoid and possibly also got a scapholunate ligament tear. for more on that go here.
as a way to find out if that is what has happened i had to get an arthrography and then an MRI today. the arthrography involves getting dye injected into the joint before the MRI so it is easier to see everything.
the result is a sore and puffy wrist that again has limited strength and movement. it was painful but not too bad, and just felt weird like this pressure from inside your wrist as it fills with the fluid.
they inject the fluid and take xrays as they do it to make sure they are injecting into the right spot. this xray you can see my wrist and the needle in it.
then i went for the MRI. that was painless. i just laid down in a super man position (arm out stretched like i am flying through the air) and laid still for 15 minutes while the MRI machine made machine gun noises all around me. i have the imagery, (cool but looks like the moon not my wrist) but not the results. i go see the specialist on wednesday. until then no major activity for my right wrist for 48 hours. i wait. i will keep you informed.
