concrete drawing set up

last couple of weeks deb and i have begun working on a new public artwork. the idea is to make some watery like images in concrete that will be installed in the ground. we have never done anything like this before and have found a friendly concreter to work with us on this project.

we decided to begin with a test tile. we will test the overall process we have planned as well as the colours we have in mind and the imagery. the images are made into black and white patterns and then printed out to actual size.

the print out allowed us to copy the pattern onto some foam, that we then cut through using a wire foam cutter.

its a simple process, that just takes some patience and time to complete.

the overall images can be seen here, and colour choices in print and the corresponding concrete samples disks.

while we being making the small sample, we have also begun planning and preparing for the 3 larger final artworks.

the metal frames have been rolled to the exact shape and size

some concrete tables, or pads have been cast, ready for us to place the frames on. we will then be casting the final artworks onto this surface upside down, so that when it is done we will flip the artwork over to reveal the final image and finish of the drawing.

its going to be an exciting project to work on, and i will try and keep the blog updated with our progress. the timeline at the moment means this project should be installed in June this year, give or take a few weeks.
