install week continued

this is the third site, ready to start work.

install involved putting in 2 bike racks and also taking away 16 cement pavers.

we loaded and unloaded these pavers weighing about a ton into the ute about 6 times by the time we were done.

it didn't take long to get the 2 stainless steel bike racks in and take up the pavers. we left the fence up for a few days while we took the pavers to work on at our studio.

the first thing we had to do was lightly grind the surface of each paver back so that our stencil would stick better.

we laid out each area on the studio floor to make sure we had all the info we needed for the next day.

each paver will get a section of an image put on it.

each stencil was hand cut from the shadow drawings of the bike that deb and i did last week.

the day after we removed the pavers from site, we went to work at a local workshop where they mostly make tomb stones. we laid a stencil on each paver. all of this was preplanned and laid out so that hopefully on install everything lines up to create a larger image.

this is the stencil on the paver ready to be sandblasted.

this is the same paver after it has been blasted. the result was great.

it took us all day to lay out the stencils, and get them ready for blasting.

because it was cold in the workshop we had to heat each stencil up to help it stick to the surface of the paver.

lucky for us they had a crane that they used to move the pavers around the workshop.

this made it so much easier.

especially since the sandblaster is located on the second floor (the large green machine in the middle of the photo)

the stencils and sandblasting turned out really great. next step reinstalling the pavers and hoping our planning results in the tiles lining up and the image making sense.
