recently me and a good friend decided to start putting our hand up to do some public artworks together. we have worked together in some capacity since i moved to adelaide, so we know that we can work well together.
one of the jobs we recently went for is part of a bike art trail the city council is organising around the city. we got 2 spots approved. these will be our first 2 official public commissions together!
this is the drawing we presented for the concept of a branch bike rack that is to be installed outside of the botanic gardens. we got the go ahead last week, and since then every trip on our bikes, by foot or in the car we have been looking up at the trees trying to find the perfect branch.
and man did we score. at the park at the end of the street our studio is on, was this branch. we had to get the truck to site, and a ladder, and we looked a bit strange i am sure standing in a park next to a main road cutting down a branch at 430 on a friday afternoon, but it is perfect! basically it is a ready made from nature.
it is perfect, did i already say that? the next step is to get it cast in bronze. but seeing how perfect it is, the bronze is going to look amazing and show up all the beautiful detail of the lemon scented gum bark and texture.
on our way to the bronze place we stopped by the botanic gardens and placed the branch close to where it will be installed when finished. perfect!
the other job we got will require more work from us. we are fabricating 2 bike racks that will then be installed on the footpath. silhouettes of bicycles will be sandblasted into the surface of the footpath so it looks like a bike is tied up, but it is just a memory of the bike.
this is our drawing for that concept. more photos will come along as things happen, we have about 2 months now to make these jobs a reality!
