reusing my scrap glass

for the past year i have been saving these bits of glass that i usually throw away. these are the left over scraps from my product the whole bowls.

each piece of glass has a bright colour on the inside and white on the outside. they are curved and in a round disc shape. i have recently had an idea on how i can reuse these scraps.

first i use a diamond saw and cut the disks in half leaving the piece in the top of this image.

then i flatten these curved half discs in a kiln, leaving the piece of glass in the bottom half of the image.

this is what the kiln looks like loaded up before i turn it on. i bring the glass up to 700 degrees Celsius, and let gravity and the heat gently slump the glass flat on the kiln shelf. then i cool them down. the whole process takes about 24 hours.

these are the flattened pieces of glass in my studio. with my solo exhibition next year i need to start making some work for it, and these flattened scraps are going to come in very handy.
more on what they will be turned into once i finally get to finishing one.
