even though i am on holidays i wanted to help my folks out with a few odd jobs around the house. i often feel a slight pang of guilt living on the other side of the world from them, that i am not around to lend a hand. so i made up for it this week.
mom and dad have 6 chickens and a chook run, but then they decided to get 3 more. the three new ones were being pecked on by the 6 older chooks so it was decided that a new separate chook run was required.
this is the backyard. the large building on the right is the rabbit house, and the small one on the left is the existing chook house and the run is out behind it. the small wooden box in front of it will be the small chook nesting box.
here is my dad in his workshop
we started the project at 930 am and finished it at 7pm. it was a long day, but it was worth the effort.
now the little chooks have their own home. here they are apprehensively checking out the new nesting house.
there were tons of black flies and mosquitoes out that day. here we are enjoying the finished project with a couple beers
project complete.
the next phase of work was inside the house. the last time the house was painted was when i did it about 10 years ago. in the last 8 months mom and dad have put in a new kitchen and new patio doors, so a repaint was in order.
this is the lounge room painted, but i also painted the kitchen, hallway and bathroom.
this is the kitchen repainted. then we went out and got a new light for the kitchen. dad and i spent about 2 hours installing it. the directions had no words just a diagram with arrows, so it took longer than it should have but now that it is up it looks good.
and with that the majority of the holiday projects are complete
