today deb and i spent our time at the install of our timber walkway. we arrived at 7am to start the job, and meet our scaffolding installers. it was a slow start, the first 2 units taking a bit to figure out a system. by the time we had put up 7 or so we were in the swing of things and after that things went rather quickly.
its hard to see in this photo but deb and i had our own safety vests made, it says "CHEB cares about art and safety"
deb and i assisted the installers and we were in charge or the safety area around the install area and answering public enquiries.
not all the public liked the project, and some thought it was "stupid". you definitely get to know what people think when you are working in a public space. there were positive comments as well, and we thought it was looking pretty good.
the best part was that it was suppose to take us 2 days to install but because we had such a good system worked out and some good guys on the install we managed to get the whole thing complete in one day! 2 days in 1!
here are a few images of the finished sections.
it is over 60 meters long,
and there are 38 separate units, each one custom made for that exact location
the units are made of 2 bent galvanized tubes with 6 - 10 pieces of painted jarrah timber attached to them.
each unit weighs between 40 - 60 kg depending on the number of timbers attached.
it was a very productive day, this part of the project is complete. there is some new up lighting to be installed along the walkway and we will get some professional images taken once that is complete.
the best part of finishing 2 days in 1 is that we can go to the site of our other install that started this morning as well, our bike shelter down near the beach. more on that job tomorrow!
