new studio space

our studio is in an old baptist church, and 5 of us divide the front room of the church into our own personal studio spaces. this was my studio space before.

pretty good. but the white wall you can see on the left divided my space from my friend deb's space. normally this would be ok, but since we often collaborate on public artworks we thought it might be good to re think our space. When my exhibition was done we finally got to work on it.

we took the dividing wall (which was already in 3 sections) and re-configured it into an H shape. one one side (which you can;t see) we created shelving and storage, and on this side we made a new desk/office work space a I painted it my favorite colour. not sure why but I really like working in a dark space.

the nest part is that we put all of this on wheels so that when we want to change it again in the future (we often change the furniture around) it will be easy to.

the white shelves on the left of this image below are the other side of the short black wall in the image above.

the table in my space now has really good wheels on it and can be moved around as needed. (the 5 story model on it is a 1:50 scale model we build for a new public artwork commission we have just begun.)

i have some storage along the back wall,

and this looking into my space from deb's space. now we have the shared table on the left of the image to use for our shared projects, and we can both work at our desks but easily communicate with each other as well.  so far it is working really well. needless to say sometimes we still just take over both spaces with our work, and other times we will work on our separate projects, but now the studio is more flexible.
