the other weekend borris and i found ourselves out in the hills for a drive and stopping off at an apple orchard stand on the side of the road. i bought a kilo of granny smiths and a kilo of bonza apples. they are so yummy and crisp. this was unplanned of course, and when i got home i realised that this is a lot of apples for two people. but then i also realised it was the prefect opportunity to give my new food dehydrator (thanks family) its first test run!
borris helped me lay out the apples onto the stackable trays. we dehydrated them au-natural but after speaking to a friend next time i might give them a presoak in some pineapple and lime juice.

then we set it on. one surprising thing was how loud it was. it kind of sounds like a hair drier just left running. in the end the noise was a bit too much so we put the dehydrator in the bathroom to let is do its work and muffle the noise a bit.
first time a success, i can't wait to try it out on mangoes, and maybe even cherries this summer!

Great idea to dry some! This is probably one of the lower sugary fruits too. Drying them increases the sugar content...apples wouldn't be so bad. I would eat them as I am online at night...and I tend to just keep throwing them down the hatch, so these would be great...I think I will buy dried apples at the store and see how it is!!! Thanks for the great idea!
Yay! You used the hair dryer!
you will make your fortune with dried mango and retire young!
